Psychological Imagination

Imagination in the true psychological, i.e., instinctual, sense is an activity that is essentially autonomous of the material brain – it is going on whether the human brain is there or not. Imagination and intuitive mapping – the illumination of the nature of an object from the inside out - is an innate instinctual reality residing in the basic properties the unconscious. Whatever the psyche envisions, whatever aspect it can penetrate and enlighten in a thing, is always a priori to the projection of these contents into conscious awareness, and its images and intuitive perceptions are therefore nothing the mind could ever think up or create at will.
